We often use headphones, headsets and earpieces in our day to day life but have you ever stopped to consider how the noise level might be affecting your hearing? According to Action On Hearing Loss, over 3.7 million people of working age in the UK already have some form of hearing loss – and with millions of people wearing headphones, headsets and earpieces every day, it’s an issue that’s likely to get much worse if left unaddressed.

It’s one of those ‘time bombs’ that the media likes to write about, so when it came to have the chance to pitch for a company that has patented technology to address occupational noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL), we jumped at the chance.

We’re pleased to announce that we’ve won the UK brief with LimitEar® to promote HDM Pro®, its patented Hearing Dose Management® device, which helps wearers of headphones, headsets and earpieces to reduce the risk of occupational noise-induced hearing loss. LimitEar is a UK technology company dedicated to helping users to protect themselves against hearing loss.

LimitEar’s device is designed to help businesses in areas such as broadcasting, call centres, emergency services, military and industrial use. Its patented HDM Pro technology offers Hearing Dose Management®, which intelligently adjusts users’ sound levels in response to exposure to reproduced sound. It is expected that the technology will also have widespread applications in the recreational market, as hearing loss is taken more seriously by consumers.

Firefly will be responsible for UK media relations and social media for LimitEar, with a brief to raise the awareness of the risk of occupational noise-induced hearing loss and its HDM Pro device, which launched commercially in February. LimitEar plans to take HDM Pro into other European markets later this year.

Commenting on Firefly’s appointment, LimitEar’s managing director, Stephen Wheatley says, “HDM Pro® is the result of nearly three years of extensive product development and has been in use for the last few months. We are in a position to ramp up our marketing activities, following a contract announcement with Sennheiser Solutions this month, so it’s a critical time for LimitEar to build its presence in core markets.

“We selected Firefly due to its expertise working with high tech business and the passion demonstrated by the team to understand our business and make a difference. We’re looking forward to working with Firefly to help LimitEar meet its potential.”

Aside from the opportunity to work with one of the UK’s up and coming technology firms, working with LimitEar has made the Firefly team think very carefully about how long and how loud they have their earphones plugged in!
