Believe it or not I am the grandson of a PR consultant. Although, I have to admit that I did not initially have a burning ambition to join him in the family business. But following the completion of my degree and an 18 month stint as a chauffeur it was time to look for a career that played to what I considered my strengths at the time – history and driving. Not the ideal combination but you have to work with what you’ve got.
Now some 25 years later, and a career that has encompassed running network owned PR agencies, my own specialist agency and chairing both UK and international trade associations, I work with creative businesses, helping them to grow. Challenges include a sector that gets ever more competitive and is changing rapidly as digital channels dominate traditional communications methods and ‘always on’ communications impact how consultancies operate from top to bottom.
In my down time I’m a qualified windsurfing instructor, although I have yet to find a consultancy where I can combine this passion with my business growth skills.
